Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is designed around four key pillars that shape everything we do:
1. Deep Learning and Lasting Knowledge
We are committed to ensuring that children learn and retain the key knowledge and skills identified by each subject lead. Our teaching is carefully sequenced and structured to support long-term understanding and academic success.
2. Personal Growth
We encourage every child to strive for personal growth — not only in their academic work but in their attitudes, conduct, and aspirations. We celebrate effort, progress, and achievement, fostering pride, ambition and kindness in all areas of school life.
3. Growth Beyond the Classroom
Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Through a wide range of enrichment opportunities, we offer children memorable experiences that broaden their horizons, spark new interests, and grow confidence and character.
4. Independence and Leadership
We nurture independent learners who can think for themselves, reflect on their progress, and take responsibility for their learning. Across the school, children are encouraged to develop leadership skills and become positive role models in our community.
Together, these principles ensure that children at Gilbert Inglefield Academy are well-prepared for the challenges ahead — academically, personally, and socially.
You will find a learning journey link on each subject page. These show units of learning.
In maths and English, there are different numbers of units in each term, depending on the topic being taught. There will typically be two or three units of learning each half term. In most foundation subjects, there are one or two units of learning per half term.
If a learning journey shows three blocks of learning, this means a new unit is taught each term. In Key Stage 2, it may mean a subject is taught in alternate terms. If a learning journey shows six blocks of learning per year, this means a new unit is typically taught each half term.
